Big Brother Canada is officially back for 2027! Announced on the morning of June 4th during Bell Media’s Upfronts, the show is moving from Global TV to CTV and Crave marking a huge comeback two years after its 2024 cancellation.
The path back to the screen wasn’t easy. Almost two years ago, on June 27, 2024, long time broadcaster Corus Entertainment parent company of former BBCAN broadcaster Global TV officially pulled the plug on Big Brother Canada after 12 seasons, citing shifting audience trends, advertising challenges, and steep production costs. It left a massive, diary room sized void in the schedules of thousands of dedicated viewers.
Immediately following whispers of the show being shelved in early June 2024, a passionate loyal superfan fan named Jayda Bannister launched a Change.org petition titled “Big Brother Canada Needs Your Help!”
The petition served as a digital rally’s peak. Fans flooded social media using the hashtag #SAVEBBCAN, explicitly demanding that another network or parent company like Banijay Rights find a way to keep our Canadian format alive. Executive producers Arisa Cox and Erin Brock even kept hopes alive in subsequent interviews, hinting that the rights holders were determined to shop the show around to a new home.
In the press release from Bell Media
Bell Media announced that, following a deal with Banijay Rights, the global distribution arm of media and entertainment powerhouse Banijay Entertainment, it will bring future seasons of BIG BROTHER USA to Canadian audiences beginning Summer 2027. From Entourage, the team behind French-language Québécois series, BIG BROTHER CÉLÉBRITÉS, and produced in association with Crave and CTV, BIG BROTHER CANADA is set to begin production Spring 2027 in Montréal. Canadian TV personality Andrea Bain, co host of CTV’s THE SOCIAL, is confirmed as the host for the new season, with casting details to be announced at a later date.
“BIG BROTHER is one of the most iconic and beloved formats around the world and we are thrilled to have it take up residency at Bell Media,” said Justin Stockman, VP, Global Content, Bell Media. “Further strengthening our alliance with our production partners at Entourage and distribution partner at Banijay Rights, we look forward to delivering Canadian audiences more of the eventful and unforgettable competitive social gameplay they love with a new season of BIG BROTHER CANADA.”
While we the fans will have to adjust to a new host and a new modified production style will take some time, the revival proves a fundamental reality TV truth: you are never truly evicted until the fans stop fighting for you.
